It’s A MAD World!

It’s A MAD World!

It’s a mad world and probably not for the reasons you, or Tears for Fears fans*, might think. The mad world we’re talking about is the world of Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures (which when you put the first letter of each word together it magically spells ‘MAD’). In this MAD world, software is a huge consideration that often isn’t considered until it is far too late. When we talk about it being too late we mean audits, fines and millions of pounds later too late!!!

Software on its own can be complicated enough but when companies are coming together, or going their separate ways, software can become a tangled web of mysteries that a lot of people never get round to untangling. Who really fully understands their usage rights? Their ability to deploy in different territories? Or how their current enterprise agreement is altered when it’s migrated to a different set of hardware? You would be surprised how difficult this can become and by the time most companies figure it out they typically find themselves in 1, 2 or all 3 of the following situations

  1. They panic, receive poor advice from a vendor and make the wrong decision.
  2. They carry on as they were, install as usual and suddenly receive an audit letter.
  3. They pay a huge settlement fee to the vendor and are locked into a minimum 3 year agreement for software they probably won’t fully utilise.

The thing is the MAD world doesn’t need to drive you crazy, which is why SAMcraft have a track record of successfully working with our customers to make this process as pain free and cost efficient as possible. If you’d like to know more about how to avoid costly mistakes during Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures then email nofear@samcraft.co.uk

*by no means is this a slight towards fans of the seminal pop group Tears for Fears. Here at SAMcraft we firmly believe that Tears for Fears’ 1985 LP “Songs from the Big Chair” is amongst the finest recorded works of the 1980’s.
